In Redmond next week

My new job at Microsoft starts Monday, and I’ll be on campus in Redmond all week. The first 1.5 days are all HR stuff I’m told, but after that I’ll be available. I’m setting up various meetings, but of course I don’t know many of the folks I ought to meet. So if you’re one of those folks, would like to get together, and are within earshot of this blog, speak up. We could maybe coordinate right here in comments, or if that’s too weird, then email me at my permanent address, judell at mv dot com.

  1. I think you’re talking about on-campus meetups with ‘Softies, but I want to raise my hand for a geek dinner in the area with fans such as myself.

I don’t know how familiar you are with the area, but the Crossroads Mall in Bellevue is literally down the road from the Redmond Campus and is a common choice for this (the East Side web logger meet-ups are there on the first Tuesday of the month).

How about 7pm Thursday the 18th? It’s not expected to snow.

  2. I just wanted to say you have guts putting an address out like that. I’m already getting SPAM hits with a brand new GMail account I just started last week, and I use it sparingly!

    Anyway, G/L again.

  3. “I want to raise my hand for a geek dinner in the area with fans such as myself.”

    That’d be excellent.

“How about 7pm Thursday the 18th?”

I’ll be there. Thanks for picking the time/place.

  4. I’d love to attend geek dinner in your honor, but that Thursday is out for me. Maybe next time you are in town.

  5. Dennis, you don’t mention the regular Weblog Meetup? Fie!

We also have a regular weblog meetup in Seattle, the third Wednesday of the month (I organize both the East Side meetup and Seattle Meetup). Details are on my weblog or on the meetup.com site. I’ll try to make it Thursday at Crossroads, also.

  6. Anita, I didn’t know Jon’s logistics and figured he would be tied down near Redmond. I was anxious to get on Jon’s dance card and I offered a date and time as soon as I saw Jon’s blog entry. My apologies. I like coming to Ralph’s, as you know. It is also far more convenient for my use of public transportation. Would you please point Jon to the Seattle weblogger’s meetup on Wednesday night and see if he can attend. Maybe that’s a better night for Jeff Sandquist too.

I picked Thursday because I figured Jon would be traveling on Friday and his Microsoft week would be winding down. Now I’m stuck with it.

Deepak, I don’t know how to decode your comment. I don’t have information about the podcaster’s meetup and don’t know the extent of the conflict and how to resolve it. Thanks for commenting on my blog too, but I don’t know what to do about it other than show up and see what happens.

  7. Is Friday an option for the meetup? I’m not leaving until Sat AM, and the podcast meeting sounds fun on Thurs, I hadn’t known about it.

  8. Orcmid, sorry for clearing the confusion. I already emailed you the podcasting meetup details, but I might as well put them up here.

It’s at Microsoft studios in Redmond, from 7pm on Thursday (I’m just a plain ole attendee). Obviously, I favor a move to Friday, but then I’m just one fella.

  9. Hey, Jon – Probably too late for this trip, but at some point we’d love to get you to come on over to the University of Washington to chat with some faculty, staff, and students. Let’s think about that next time you come out this way.

  10. Geek Dinner is on for tonight, Friday. Location is Crossroads Mall, NE 8th and 156th Ave. NE in Bellevue (just down 156th from main MS campus). Time is around 7 pm. Look for us in the Food court, near the library.

    I’d like that.

  12. “Look for us in the Food court, near the library.”

I was there, but probably too late — around 8:30. Oh well, at least now I’ll know, next time around, who to coordinate with and how.
